Trends in Washington state organic agriculture 2004-2011
MetadataShow full item record
Organic agriculture expanded rapidly in Washington state from 2004-2009 due to growing consumer demand. The recession years slowed growth nationally and this was reflected in a decline in acreage in the state. While overall acres were down slightly in 2011 from the previous year, certain crops such as blueberries and sweet corn expanded their acreage. Washington remains a leading producer of a number of organic specialty crops that continue to experience increased demand.
